New Year, New You!
Well that’s what the stores would have us believe anyway.
Filled to the brim with everything that society tells us to desire- which in itself changes every season, they can quickly become a battleground for sin. As Christians we must be extra vigilant. We mustn’t let our fleshly desires dictate our lives, (See Romans 12:2) and we certainly can’t allow those desires to lead us into immodest fashion choices.
Need Biblical Inspiration? Here are some powerful scriptures all about the perils of focusing too much on our clothing choices and how we look.

Proverbs 31:30 ESV
“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewellery, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious”
1 Peter 3:3-4

Don’t be disheartened. God isn’t asking you to wear a potato sack and like it!
You can absolutely have fun with fashion. Fashion can be a great way of letting your personality shine through, and more importantly, directing our brothers and sisters to Christ. I highly recommend Help me, Jesus! I have nothing to wear! For a practical guide on dressing modestly yet stylishly.
A key question to ask yourself then once you’ve gotten dressed in the morning is this.
“Does my outfit point to me, or to Jesus?”
And on that note, lets dive in to five modest essentials for your wardrobe!
The Midi Skirt
I think the midi is the perfect length for just about everyone. I know a lot of Christians prefer to wear maxi skirts but I have never found them 1)- long enough for my 5″11 frame, or 2) particularly flattering to fuller figured women. Which rules them out for me. The Midi on the other hand? Perfect for tall and short ladies, slim and fuller figured.
The Midi Dress
What I love about the midi dress is the fact that with the right accessories you can own one dress that you can wear both day and night! Dress it up with heels and jewellery, or dress it down with cute flats and a jacket. All the perks of the midi skirt- in dress form.
The Tailored Trousers
Trousers used to be the bane of my life- they were never long enough for my 5″11 frame, or if they were, the clung in all the wrong places. Again, some Christians are against women wearing trousers but I strongly disagree. Tailored trousers are both smart and modest, and all together more practical in certain situations.
The Long Sleeve Tee
The long sleeve tee shirt is a lifesaver. Seen a cute shirt but its just too short? Throw a long sleeve tee underneath and you are good to go. Cold out? Long sleeve tee. Layering needed? Long sleeve tee. You get where I’m going with this- its your essential piece!
The Perfect Coat
Apologies if you live in a warm part of the world but for the rest of us a good coat is essential. A good tailored coat should be your go to- the lines will flatter your figure without revealing anything. Bonus points if its pink- my favourite colour!
So those are my five essentials- what are yours? Comment and let me know!
