follow site If you watch me on YouTube, you will know that I am currently dieting, and have sworn off junk food for Lent.

http://apacheip.com/industries-served/ I wanted my desire to lose weight to be guided by God. After all, nothing is too big or too small for Him.

So, after much prayer and Amazon scrolling I invested in Lysa Terkeurst’s ‘Made to Crave’.

I’m a HUGE Lysa TerKeurst fan so I knew she’d be perfect for helping me out with something we all struggle with- craving!

The Review

What I like about this book is that Lysa explains we are BORN TO CRAVE. But somewhere along the way our cravings become less about God, and more about food. And that my friends is where I’m going wrong,

Lysa goes on to explain three different types of craving- Emotional, Physical and Material. Each manifests in a different way but all can lead to unhealthy eating patterns. I was able to see immediately that my main trigger is emotional. I eat because I want to feel full- not physically, but emotionally. Food was not designed for this purpose, and that’s why I’ve been struggling.

There are exercises at the end of each chapter to help you reflect on what you’ve jus read, and to see how each of the cravings is manifesting in your life. I related to all three cravings, but emotional was definitely my main one.

The Conclusion

This book has helped me recognise unhealthy patterns, and I’m determined to bring them to God. As Lysa states, we are made to crave God so I am replacing my emotional cravings with a healthier alternative- God and his Word. It wont be easy but with God all things are possible. I know that I can do this if I rely on his strength, and not my own.

If you’re struggling with your weight, and unhealthy eating patterns I highly recommend this book. Lysa’s writing style is fabulous and makes you feel like you are talking with a friend across a coffee table. There’s no judgement- just a desire to help and make the reader feel confident in their ability to make changes to their lifestyle.

There is also a 60 day devotional available which you might like to invest in. I am currently considering this purchase and will update this post if I decide to get it!
