What Does God say about Anxiety?

what does god say about anxiety

All of have dealt with anxiety at one point or another. For some it’s mild, for some its much more severe. For some it’s temporary and short lived, for some its lifelong.

I am definitely an anxious person. For example- I avoid crowds at all costs. The thought of say, going to a concert, terrifies me. Too many people, too much noise. I just can’t deal with it. Yet put me in a room with 100 people and ask me to give a presentation and I’m fine. In that situation I feel like I am in control, and I’m not actually among the people so I feel ok.

Maybe you don’t like crowds either- and I know most people don’t like giving presentations. Whatever your anxiety, we must always remember that we aren’t alone. We have Jesus with us at all times and it is to Him that we must look for strength.

So what does God say about anxiety?

Check out these three key verses.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”

Matthew 6:25-27 ESV

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”

Phillipians 4:6-7
